Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

Q

I have decided to have a beach wedding. What now?

A

Call or e-mail for date and time availability..

The most popular time of the year for a wedding on the beach in this area is May-September.

Q

Where are you located?

A

We are located in Spring Lake, Michigan.

We service St. Joseph, South Haven, Holland, Grand Haven, Muskegon, Ludington, Manistee, Traverse City, and everywhere in between!

Q

How soon should we reserve our date and time?

A

We suggest making your reservation as soon as you have decided on a date for your ceremony.  The closer we get to your date the more limited our availability gets.

We are currently accepting reservations for 2017 & 2018.

We will begin accepting reservations for 2019 weddings on February 1st, 2018.

Q

How do we book our wedding?

A

When you're ready to make your reservation please print, complete, and return (via fax/email) the beach request form .  When we receive your beach request form we will call you to confirm your details and accept your deposit!

Q

What happens after we reserve our date?

A

Once your reservation has been made you can call or email us anytime with questions.  We will contact you for any information we require.

You will receive a reservation confirmation, and planning forms to help us plan and coordinate your ceremony.  Please print, complete, and email/fax those forms to us at least 60 days prior to your ceremony.

We will contact you during the week prior to your ceremony to confirm your ceremony's details.

Note:  We understand you may live out of state and don't have the time to travel to Michigan to meet with us & every other vendor.  We like to make this really easy for you so all of the planning is done over the phone and via email.

Q

Do you pick the location or do we?

A

The location is your choice.  If you have a city in mind we can make recomendations for great beaches in the area.

We can also provide you with information regarding permits and parking on site.

Q

What happens if it rains?

A

It is the responsibility of the couple to have a "back-up" location within 15 miles of the beach location in case of inclement weather.  You may want to consider wedding insurance.  A popular company is www.wedsafe.com.

Some beaches have a pavilion or covered picnic area that can be reserved.  This is a great inexpensive back up in case rain prevents setup in the sand.  It keeps you from having to contact all of your guests to tell them where to go for bad weather.

If you are having a reception we may be able to move to that location, with permission from the venue.

We may suggest adjusting the ceremony start time to avoid any inclement weather scheduled to interfere with the ceremony.  We stay flexible and ask that you do to!

If the possibility of getting wet on your wedding day is too scary we recommend you get married indoors.  We want you love your wedding day, even if there is a small chance of rain.

Q

Will there be other people on the beach?

A

Yes.  All beaches in the State of Michigan are public beaches.  We cannot “rope off” any part of the beach.

There are some areas that are less populated than others.  In all of the weddings that we have done we haven’t had any interference with beach goers.

We are very familiar with the times/dates that the beaches get busy, we will work with you to make sure you pick the right date & time to avoid a busy beach.

Q

Who performs the ceremony?

A

An ordained minister.

Q

Who takes the photographs?

A

All of our packages include photos by our photographers.

Couples will receive their photos in an online gallery with release for prints & online ordering/sharing for family & friends.

We strive to provide our clients with quality photos... however weather conditions & late starts may affect the outcome.  It's important to arrive on time to your ceremony.

Q

Can we bring our own officiant and/or photographer?

A

Yes, We will offer a $100.00 credit/each if you choose to provide your own officiant and/or photographer and provide us with at least 60 days notice.

NOTE: We will not release our ceremony, which includes the verses for the heart of sand and the blessing stones. Only officiants directly affiliated with My Barefoot Wedding are provided this information with whom a confidentiality agreement has been signed.

Q

A

It can be added from the a la carte menu.  Music is often played for the guests during their arrival, during your processional, and after the pronouncement for your recessional.

Q

Do you provide chairs?

A

Yes, you are welcome to add as many chairs to your package as you like.

We recommend providing enough chairs for your parents, grandparents, and anyone that may need one.  Typically 10-30 chairs are requested depending on the number of guests.

Q

How to we get the marriage license?

A

If you live in the state of Michigan you would apply for your marriage license in the county where you live.

If you live outside the state of Michigan you would apply for your marriage license in the county where you are getting married.

Visit our  marriage license page  for more details.

Q

What happens with the marriage license after the ceremony?

A

We will forward the signed license to the County Clerk that issued the license.

You'll keep a signed copy of the marriage license as well.

After the wedding you are responsible for requesting a "certified copy" from the county clerk that issued their license.  The county will not automatically send them out.
